Media day at Marvel Stadium saw news outlets from around the world…
…get up close and personal with fighters both set to compete at UFC 243, and others slated for future title fights such as Alex “The Great” Volkanovski and Paulo “The Eraser” Costa.
First up was Israel Adesanya (17-0), who was quietly confident in his abilities heading into the biggest fight of his MMA career.
“I want to recreate what Holly Holm did in this place”, Adesanya said in reference to Holm’s 2015 knockout of Ronda Rousey. “I’m going to make that happen, guaranteed.”
Throughout the morning, other fighters booked to fight on UFC 243 such as Megan Anderson, Tai Tuivasa, Jake Matthews and Kai Kara-France made appearances, before all went quiet for the fighter face-offs.
Only the occasional camera shutter could be heard as Robert Whittaker (20-4) and Adesanya squared up in front of one another, with Adesanya looking his opponent up and down while Whittaker never broke eye contact for a moment, before both going their separate ways.
To round out the day, Whittaker was all smiles as he gave his take on the fight ahead.
“I’m going to drag him into the trenches the way Gastelum did, but better. Whittaker said, looking back on Adesanya’s last fight against Kelvin Gastleum. “So… let’s see if he wants to leave early.”
